TRANSFER PROCEDURES
Transfer procedures are as follows:
Effective January 1, 2020 the cost of a transfer is $84.89 payable in cash or personal check when you pick up the firearm after the mandatory 10 day waiting period. In addition to the transfer fee of $84.89 you will be required to pay CA sales tax (7.25%) on the amount of the purchase unless you can provide evidence you have already paid sales tax. This sales tax is due even though the firearm was purchased out of state. Any additional firearms handled at the same time are also $84.89 each. Only one handgun can be transferred to an individual every 30days. There is no limit on the amount of longs guns that can be transferred on any day or over any time period.
Example:You transfer one handgun and two long guns all at the same time. The charge is going to be $254.67 total. $84.89 for each firearm transferred. Added to this charge will be the sales tax calculated at 7.25% on the amount you paid the seller for the guns.
The 10 day waiting period begins when we submit the background check. You must appear at my place of business in order to submit the background check. For private party transfers both parties and the firearm have to be present at the time of the background check. For the transfer of out of state guns after you have emailed or otherwise provided me the following information I will contact the seller with all my FFL and shipping information. If I have to educate the seller or otherwise train him about CA laws the cost may be more. After you have paid the seller for the firearm they will ship to me.
For a long gun (shotgun or rifle) you provide me with the following information:
1) Name of Seller
2) Address of Seller
3) Phone of Seller
4) Fax of seller
5) e-mail address of seller
6) Is seller a Federal Firearms Licensee? (yes or no)
7) Complete description of firearm...make model type of action (semi auto, bolt, pump, caliber, etc
For a hand gun transfer provide me with all of the above plus:
You must provide confirmation that you have checked on the California Department of Justice web site and confirmed the gun in on the "approved list"
When you come to my place for a background check you will need to bring at least the following 4 documents (we cannot submit the background check without these documents: ·
1) Current California driver’s license (If you don’t have a driver’s license call me) Your drivers license must show your current address. If it does not you must have evidence you have submitted a change of address to the Dept. of Motor Vehicles. If the license is a "Real ID" (bear with star in upper right corner of license) you won't need anything else to support your residence and ID. If your license has the words "federal limits apply" you will need one of the following:
3) Proof of Residency ( this can be one of the following… a utility bill showing your name at your current physical address, or a DMV registration, or rental or lease agreement. All must have your name at your current address)
4) Proof you are 21 years of age or older
If you don't have a Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) I can issue you the test and if you successfully pass, I will issue you the Firearm Safety Certificate; cost is $25. If you have a "current hunting license" you do not need the Firearm Safety Certificate when purchasing a long gun. All handguns require the FSC some exceptions apply for Concealed Carry permit holders, active or retired military or law enforcement... call me to discuss.
